May Newsletter

Hello Fellow Guild Members,It’s a new month and this month we have so much to look forward to.  Let me first start by apologizing for the late newsletter.   I had a family emergency and had to go out of town right around the first.   Since getting back, I was under the weather.  Please accept my apologies! If you have any events you would like to include in the next newsletter, please forward that information to wamquiltguild@yahoo.com.  As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.Kerrie

May Meeting

Although there is no swapping or sew-in planned for this month, we do have some interesting things going on!  The next meeting will be on May 16th at Fabricate Studios starting at 7pm.

Your Favorite Notion

Bring your favorite notion to guild this month and share your knowledge on the usefulness of it!  My favorite notion is my seam ripper!  Mine is not special just useful!

Quilts for Boston

Amiee Anderson has made a request that we bring a block to the May guild meeting to donate to the victims of the Boston Bombing, which happened in April.  The Modern Quilt Guild of Boston will use our blocks to create a quilt for the victims.  If you are able to donate, please give your block to Amiee Anderson at the next meeting.

$10 for 10

This is more than a penny for you thoughts!  If you were at last months meeting you know that Amiee Anderson gave us a greater insight for Hand Applique.  What are you an expert on?  If you are willing to share your expertise contact me atwamquiltguild@yahoo.com.  Come get your ten mintues of fame for $10!

The decision has been made.  The Modern Quilt Guild is still evolving, so we are not as yet ready to submit our membership.  The good news is that we have until December 2014 to join the “Mothership.” Until then the guild will have the benefits of being MQG website.  We are currently listed as the West Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild so other modern quilters are able to locate us and our meetings.Georgia Celebrates Quilts  This is something to be excited about!  This quilt show is the largest judges and juried quilt show in Georgia and is hosted by East Cobb Quilters Guild.  You can visit their site to learn more about the event.  The show will be on June 14- 16 at the Cobb County Civic Center (548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060) The show times are; Friday 10 am to 6pm, Saturda) 10 am to 6pm and Sunday 10 am to 5pm.

The Decision has been made!  We will be sewing for Atlanta Children’s Shelter, which I think is a worthy cause.  There is one problem, it was a split decision concerning when we would sew for our Charity.
More information concering charity sewing will be further discussed at the next meeting.  Think about what you want!  There will be a survey at the door to make this decision.

Guild Library

As discussed at the last meeting, the guild has created a Library!  isn’t that exciting news.  Our library will be ran by Ms. Kay and as you walk in for our next meeting you can give your donated books either to her of myself.

  • To donate a Book:  Please complete the Book Catalog Form.  All fields are important, include the cost of book (in case it needs to be replaced).
  • To Request a Book:  Starting April 1st you will be able to view our catalog and request to borrow a book by completing the Book Request form.
  • The Process:  Once your request is received, a email will be sent to verify if the book is available or if you name will be on the waiting list.
  • Check In/Check Out:  Books will be checked in at the beginning of guild meeting and checked out at the end of the guild meeting.  You will have use of the book until the next meeting, when it will need to be returned.   If you would like to keep the book an additional month you will need to fill out another book Request form.  You will be able to keep the book unless someone else is waiting for it.
  • Items to Donate: Although I have mainly talked about books, we are will be accepting patterns, videos, magazines or any type of sewing information you are willing to share with the guild.
  • Purchase Request:  If you would like for the guild to purchase a particular item, please forward that request to watlmqglibrary@yahoo.com

  • You have the option to bring either fat quarters or scraps or both!  It up to you!

  1. Kerrie,

Can you remind everyone (in case they didn’t read the link to the Boston site) the blocks need to be like the following:

    1) use at two of these colors – blue, yellow, gray and white. Prints and solids are welcome. 2) blocks should be 12.5 tall – width can be any size. 3) machine piece only 4) 100% cotton fabrics 5) use light gray thread

I have to mail the blocks by May 24th. I hope we get a least one from each person.
